The Niskayuna Consumers’ Cooperative, Inc.
is a member owned supermarket which has served
Niskayuna and surrounding communities for over
sixty years.
How Did It Get Started?
The Niskayuna Co-op was founded in 1943 by the
Niskayuna residents to overcome the lack of a quality
grocery store in the area.
The cooperative form of organization was chosen
and has grown to a current membership of over 12,000
member families and annual sales of approximately
$7,500,000. In the interest of true democratic
control, voting in the corporation is on the basis
of one member, one vote rather than on the number
of shares owned. A distinguishing feature of the
Co-op is that the $5.00 share price means that
no one need be excluded form membership benefits
should they be desired.

cashing privileges. The Co-op also supports school
and community activities such as Niska Day, High
